Marc's 3Day Walk in San Diego for Breast Cancer -- I did it!

Thank you for your donation – for supporting my journey and the fight against Breast Cancer! I appreciate every single penny!

Well, I finally did it! The 60+ mile walk was a little more difficult than I anticipated, but much more worth it! We walked up two big hills on Saturday – one called the Torri Pines and the other appropriately named the “La Jolla Bun Buster”. Being in the San Diego area, I knew we might encounter some inclined roads and paths along our journey, but I had no idea they would be this big. Plus there were some hills on Friday too! To focus on the positive side of the experience, the views were awesome! The coastline was absolutely beautiful! Along our path, we saw surfers, dolphins, sea lions, and hawks! What else could one ask for?

How much total money was raised for the event? Over $5,000,000 (net) was raised by 3,490 Walkers! Where is the money going? Some of the proceeds are going to the University of California, Irvine to support vital areas of early detection, treatment, and various services. More information regarding UC Irvine and its research can be found at http://www.ucihs.uci.edu/cancer/avon.htm. Information regarding early detection devices, such as the Breast Scanner, can be found at http://www.today.uci.edu/ucinews/0314f5.html.

I would like to thank Amelia’s parents (Carol and Bob Zenner). They were a BIG help to us in San Diego. Their generosity was greatly appreciated!

Why did I walk? My girlfriend and her family have inspired me with their efforts to raise money for Breast Cancer research. She has participated in the Avon 3-Day Walk to support breast cancer for the past two years. After being moved by the closing ceremonies in Chicago last year (2001), I joined in the effort to raise money for this great cause. I could not believe all the supporters that were there waiting for the Walkers to finish their 60 mile Walk from Kenosha, WI.

It was an unbelievable experience!
